Akua Taylor

Akua Taylor, Fouder and Director, Precious Messenger Productions
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Akua is the daughter of retired news anchorman Bill Taylor and revolutionary-renaissance woman Daphne Taylor.  She began acting and singing at age 8 with the African American Children's Theatre.  Akua went on to study Dramatics and Speech at Fisk University where she also sang with the world renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers and reigned as Miss Fisk University 2004-2005.  Ms. Taylor wrote and performed a one woman play about Assata Shakur as her senior dissertation and independently produced her first EP, "Just Tryin to Live," upon graduating.
On New Year's Day 2006, Akua packed her bags for New York City.  She quickly connected to the area's top entertainment professionals, while teaching drama and voice afterschool in the community of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.  Thus her company, Precious Messenger Productions, was born.   P.M.P. offers educational, cultural and motivational programs, music and theatre performances and one-on-one coaching services.  Ms. Taylor is the producer and presenter of “Reach Higher!” a motivational singing assembly for students and “Approve,” an intimate workshop for women who have been abused.
Akua has been featured in Ebony Magazine, has shared the stage with Ruby Dee, and has performed internationally in Spain, the Bahamas and Ghana, West Africa.  Her music is circulating internet radio in the UK and Iceland.  Ms. Taylor has opened for M1 of Dead Prez and performed at Eric Robeson’s Sol Village showcase in New York City.  See her in Gregory Porter’s music video “Illusions.”  Ms. Taylor's most important calling came in August 2009 when she gave birth to her son.  She has since assisted other women in ritual of natural birth, and regularly champions causes for female empowerment.
