“ SISTERS 4 ASSATA” RETURNS FOR ITS 5TH INSTALLMENT
“Sisters 4 Assata” returns with an all-new lineup, a new venue and an even bigger      celebration.

Lithonia GA (November 2013) – The Tribute and benefit concert “Sistas 4 Assata” returns to the stage for its 5th consecutive year with a big bang. The show will be held at Origin Nile Studios, a new venue to avid concert fans, and will feature an all-new lineup of talented performers that includes

Akua Taylor, performing A theatrical interpretation of the life of political exile, Assata Shakur 

Tallowah Dance Ensemble, providing African Dance and Drums

Live musical instruments and singing from youth girl-group, Born To Sing! 

Nefertiti and the nefTUNES, providing a musical variety of soul and acoustic sound

Singer/songwriter, spoken word artist, and activist Monica Raye

Singer/ songwriter and host Ife Jie

And many more Special Invited guests providing uplifting entertainment.

Proceeds from the show will go to benefit Kilombo Academic and Cultural Institute, private school, educating children from grades Pre-k to 8.

ABOUT AKUA TAYLOR

Born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Akua is the daughter of retired news anchorman Bill Taylor and revolutionary-renaissance woman Daphne Taylor.  She began acting and singing at the age of 8 with the African American Children’s Theatre.  Akua went on to study Dramatics and Speech at Fisk University where she also sang with the world renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers. Ms. Taylor wrote and performed a one-woman play about Assata Shakur and independently produced her first EP, “Just Tryin to Live,” upon graduating.

On New Year’s Day 2006, Akua packed her bags for New York City.  She quickly connected to the area’s top entertainment professionals, while teaching drama and voice after school in the community of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Her company, Precious Messenger Productions, offers motivational programs, live performances and coaching services.


ABOUT THE TALLOWAH DANCE ENSEMBLE

TALLOWAH DANCE TROUPE is a children's African dance company that was born in Black Star Educational Institute. The artistic director, Fatimah Adero Ndiaye began as the K-2nd Grade teacher who taught both Modern and African Dance as part of the general curriculum. The children studied the pedagogy as well as the technique of dance as a major subject. TALLOWAH is a Jamaican patois word, which is used to describe someone who is physically small but very formidable. They say, "Him lickle but him tallowah!!” In other words, 'He or she might be small but don't underestimate ... you might be stirring up an ants' nest!" The members of TALLOWAH DANCE TROUPE are between 5 and 10 years of age. They are as follows...

ABOUT MONICA RAYE

Monica Raye is a North Carolina native who lives by Paul Robeson's quote, "If the artist doesn't create, the world suffers." As an African American, same-gender loving feminist, Monica Raye has organized extensively against human rights violations, the prison industrial complex, racism and intolerance, and the systematic physical and emotional violence inflicted upon the minds, bodies and spirits of African Americans with an emphasis on African American women and the African American LBGT community. She currently serves as the Executive Director for SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective and performs regularly at live music venues in Atlanta and abroad. 


ABOUT IFE JIE

The first lady of the RBG camp, Ife Jie represents for the ladies with her gangsta but feminine style to rap music.Originally from South Central L.A., Ife Jie has appeared on countless mixtapes and albums with artist such as Zayd Malik, Stic Man of Dead Prez and Tahir RBG. Now with the release of her first solo album THE GODMOTHER OF THEM ALL, Ife Jie takes the rap community by storm!
