Tallowah Dance Ensemble

ABOUT THE TALLOWAH DANCE ENSEMBLE

TALLOWAH DANCE TROUPE is a children's African dance company that was born in Black Star Educational Institute. The artistic director, Fatimah Adero Ndiaye began as the K-2nd Grade teacher who taught both Modern and African Dance as part of the general curriculum. The children studied the pedagogy as well as the technique of dance as a major subject. TALLOWAH is a Jamaican patois word, which is used to describe someone who is physically small but very formidable. They say, "Him lickle but him tallowah!!” In other words, 'He or she might be small but don't underestimate ... you might be stirring up an ants' nest!"
